They'rre little cards with pictures of various things/people on them.
Most famous is baseball cards, featuring players on the front, stats
on the back. You trade them with your friends/enemies/mysterious
shadowy figures in dark alleys. What have you.

A take on the is the trading card game, where the cards have hit
points and powers, and you battle each card to determine a winner. The
most popular TCG is magic The Gathering.

I actually managed to recreate the Yugioh Pegasus Starter Deck from
buying various collections. All 50 cards, no box.

Undoubtedly. Though Yugioh has had Spanish translations.

I'd thought of trading cards as mainly an American thing, though Jo
seems to have been familiar with the concept when she wrote PS;
the "Chocolate Frog" cards are clearly a Wizarding version of
trading cards.

Me too. While the US used to pack sticks of hard gum with them, Harry
gets chocolate.

We had cigarette cards in my distant youth. And Panini issue
"collectable" cards at a price including, I believe, Harry Potter.

It may be now, but I suspect it used to happen in the UK too. I've seen
cards on ebay - from cigarette packets I think - with the various academic
outfits from different universities (the hoods and gowns for bachelors,
masters and doctorate degrees) from 60-70 years ago so presumably someone
used to trade them? And when I was a kid, I have memories of various cards
with children's sweets, cereals, or comics that you could trade.
