Discussion:
Hagrid carries dead bodies twice

I just finished listening to HBP and was reminded that Hagrid carried
Dumbledore's body to the white table that later became his tomb. How
lucky is Hagrid to get to carry another (apparently) dead body when he
brings Harry out of the woods near the end of DH?

Hagrid gets more Dirty Jobs than Mike Rowe

I'd say Severus Snape wins in this category. He got to kill the first
body, and send the second to his "death".

Hagrid is the generic body-carrier. He also carries Draco (alive)
to the infirmary when Draco provokes Buckbeak.

But you have a point: Hagrid carrying Harry parallels
both Hagrid carrying Dumbledore's body
(since at that moment it seems to everyone else that Harry is dead)
and, to some extent, makes a bracket with Hagrid bringing Harry
into the world of magic, since this seems to be Harry's exit.

It's also related to a scene in the original movie of Frankenstein,
when the grieving villager carries his dead child to the castle to
complain about the monster (which innocently and ignorantly caused
her death).

I drew the parallel with Hagrid bringing Harry to the
Dursley's on the motorbike. Both immediately followed
MoldyVort's attempts to kill Harry.

That's another good parallel. Actually, Hagrid carries Harry
another time, if you assume that the 24-hour gap isn't just
JKR being sloppy. Hagrid got Harry out of the rubble of the
house, then carried him (24 hours later) on the motorcycle.
Then took him (but didn't physically carry him) from the
island and eventually to Diagon Alley. Then out of the woods
(a very symbolic phrase in literature) in DH.

Out of the ruins of the Potter house: after V tried to kill H.
To the Dursleys: after V, but also into a new phase of life.
Away from the Dursleys: into a new phase of life.
Out of the woods: after V tried to kill H.

So it's a double bracket pattern.

Well, that is what he's paid to do. He's the groundskeeper, and he
has to keep the grounds clean. Be it from weeds, chicken killers, or
dead bodies.

Hagrid could carry a loaded coffin like a boombox on his shoulder.
He's kind of used to the delicate lifting.

He's lucky it's only the grounds and not inside the castle...

He also carried Katy back to the castle when she touched the necklace.
