I hereby propose that Voldemort address a Mandrake Howler to "The Order of
the
Phoenix", attack it to an owl, and tell the owl to deliver it ASAP. Bye
bye
Order of the Phoenix!.
Another idea for Voldemort: Intercept owls and read their minds to find
out
where they have been. If Voldy captures Hedwig, bye-bye Order of the
Phoenix!
Awfully short book 6 though ;)

Plenty of room to explore Hedwig's frustration about being stuck in a cage
most of the month of July, then sent out with messages every other day,
then having to contact people on other continents. Then there's her
courtship with an unnamed eagle owl, a long description of the fight when
the DEs capture her, and the confrontation with Voldy. Afterward she can
be filled with angst at her apparent betrayal, only to find out that the
OOTP knew she would be captured and gave her a decoy message, and the
exploding howler was sent to the Malfoy mansion. At the end she
contemplates defecting to the MoM, but the boredom drives her wild and
she escapes to the New Forest with a seedy and unreliable screech owl.

How in the world can an owl find such a house? This looks like a gaping
loophole in magical protection spells!

Also, why couldn't the MoM owls find Potter and Ron's Dad on August 11
or 12?

Well either the owls are diffrent or DD told the owl where it was. then
again maybe headwig showed up and waited around out side the house until
some one saw it and went out for her. Mad eye would not have left such an
owl sit there for so long with out saying something about it.

It could be but we would have to know more to know for sure.

Did you really think they where sent? It would suit the toads and fudge's
plans if they where never sent. So the owls may have been sent to the burro
or not at all. for my part I rather think the toad made sure they where not
sent at all.

There might be magic that stops that sort of thing from happaning. we don't
know yet. but it might be why most of the owls are got in shops as they are pre
spelled.
And yes I know that pig most likely did not come from a shop but maybe that is
why he is so odd when compared to most of the other owls.

Owls seem to have their own magic, just as house elves have their own.
It works differently. So far, some owls have been intercepted on the
grounds of Hogwarts, when Umbridge was reading the students' mail, but
noone has yet managed to follow an owl the whole way.

I have no idea. Maybe Arthur as a ministry official had an unplottability code?

The owls were supposedly sent to the Burrow, I believe.. but, who is to
say they were actually even sent at all? Fudge was just itching for a
way to nail Harry for something at that point. It would not be beyond
reasoning for him to have lied about sending owls to notify them of the
time and location change of the hearing!

Good point! Or if he did send them (or order them sent) he made sure the
owls were like poor Errol: getting up in years, slightly feeble, easily
confused, etc. That way he stays honest, but not necessarily ethical.

No doubt you know my thoughts on this point so I will try not to mention DD
is Hedwig, and say that Owls must be exempt from such charms and the house
must also have some other anti bad post charms that we an only guess about
to prevent the other side sending all sorts of nasty post such as Hermione
receives at Hogwarts.

For all we know DD told headwig about number 12.
As to the mom's owls on the 11 I don't think they where sent by the way
Fudge was talking. I rather think he changed the time and either did not
send any or did it so that the owls would not have much time to get the
letters to them.
I myself think fudge gave the job to the toad and she did not send them but
would said she did.

The Fideloius protected the Order and Harry wasn't sending owls to the
Order but Sirius and his friends.

And Sirius was Untraceable (spell?) himself except for Harry, so, I
suppose there are exceptions for this cases. LV is untraceable as well
and Crouch could send him a letter. And I doubt the house don't allow
owls or the Black have had no communication even with their own family
and Hogwarts

Be careful, Tim. If you ask too many questions, the logic tends to
fall apart, and with the logic, the story. But, it is fun to try,
isn't it? Just don't expect to come up with a watertight, provable
explanabion.

Hedwig has been let in on the secret. When she couldn't finid the
house right away, she went to Hogwarts and got the secret from DD or
possibly, a note from Fawlkes written by DD.

How's this, the Fidelius Charm makes a house un-seeable to people.
The same "magic" that allows owls to deliver letters to anyone, anywhere in
the world. Also allows them to deliver them to homes protected by the
Fidelius Charm, since they are not people.

Dumbledore tells you where it is.
How in the world can an owl find such a house? This looks like a gaping
loophole in magical protection spells!
Also, why couldn't the MoM owls find Potter and Ron's Dad on August 11
or 12?
How's this, the Fidelius Charm makes a house un-seeable to people.
The same "magic" that allows owls to deliver letters to anyone, anywhere in
the world. Also allows them to deliver them to homes protected by the
Fidelius Charm, since they are not people.
This is a gaping loophole in the Fidelius Charm! All Voldemort need do is
write a letter to "Order of the Phoenix Headquarters" and tell an owl to
deliver it, then come straight back, then Legimen the owl to determine the
location of OOTP HQ!

Because they'd not actually been sent out... geez... !! In the same
way Dumbledore's owl missed him too.

I'd have suggested that the owls belonging to people who are within
the Fidelius charm are included in its scope and thus able to find
protected houses!!

This is assuming the brains of owls function the same way a humans
does and that they can be 'read' in the same way!!

Besides, as has been said before, if it was *that* easy to subvert the
owl post, then when they were looking for Sirius after his breakout
from Azkabahn all the MoM would have had to do is send and owl to
sirius and follow it by broom!!!

No gaping loopholes for you!! :)

In the beginning of HBP when Harry stays with Ron all their mail was
redirected to the ministry and then sent on.

"And lastly, while you stay here, the Burrow has been given the highest
security the Ministry of Magic can provide. These measures have caused a
certain amount of inconvenience to Arthur and Molly - all their post, for
instance, is being searched at the Ministry before being sent on. They do
not mind in the slightest, for their only concern is your safety

The mail could have been redirected to DD's office and then sent to the
Headquarters.

<with snipping>

The dark lord couldn't Legimen Snape to get the location.

"They were joined, as you very well know, by half of the Order before long!"
snarled Bellatrix. "And, while we are on the subject of the Order, you still

Besides the possibility of being JAPH [just another plot hole]... there are
a couple possibilities...

First we need to assume that owls are very smart, which is obvious in the
books.

the owls could have used a 3rd party at first... IE the owls delivered the
post to DD at Hogwarts or Arthur at the MoM and then the owls were then
brought to the headquarters

the owls could use a different type of magic... like house elves. if you
assume...

1. that the Fidelius Charm doesn't work on owls
2. Unplottable charms don't work on owls
3. owls are "un-follow-able" until they return home

then everything works and you can sleep at night.

I also assume until the fall of MoM... that owl post was considered sacred.

As far as the hearing on August 12th... I think Fudge lied about sending
owls... which is why Fudge was surprised that DD made it and didn't have a
chair for him.

The lucky chance being he knew Fudge would try something. Or maybe he
used a Time Tuner. They were still functioning back then.

I always thought they were a lot more vulnerable, judging by how concerned
Sirius was about owls to/from him being traced (perhaps by MoM-trained
tracker-owls?!)

Maybe. we don't know what sort of protections are there. All we do know is
curses can be sent by owls. However, the one that threatened to do so to
hermoney never raived. Unless the bubertober puss was the curse. Hogwarts
seamed to stop most of the sort of things that could be sent. However, that
does seam to be at least unexplained.
It does seam that the owls aren't stopped by the charm, unless dd told the
owl off screen or it can go where ever Harry can.

Owls r strongly magical I think..........
Why aren't owls routinely used to search for missing persons? (i.e. Sirius Black in Book 3, Bertha Jorkins in Book 4). Just address a letter to a missing person and send it via an owl that has a tracking spell on it!

Similar to the magic of the house elves in Hogwarts and the way
that every owl could find Sirius, but no one in the MoM could.
Writer's license. JKR gave the owls special abilities to locate the
receiver without being traced.

To answer this you would have to answer how Hedwig always finds the right
person no matter where they are. (Siruis when he's in the South Pacific and
Dumbledore when he's in route from Hogwarts to London) Owls are the most
powerful magical creature there is and obviously they are equipped to identify
any person anywhere and immediately target that person and track them no matter
where they go like a homing pidgeon (Ok - just a speculation)

How in the world can an owl find such a house? This looks like a gaping
loophole in magical protection spells!
I hereby propose that a DE learn how to turn into an owl!

Harry sends Hedwig to deliver letters to Sirius, Ron, and Hermione. To
deliver those letters, Hedwig finds a house that is both Unplottable and
under a Charm that makes it unfindable unless Dumbledore tells you where
it is. How does she find that house?

Hedwig flew to the Weasleys' first, where they left a sort of "forwarding
service" to those in hiding. I'm sure there's an owl "post office"
somewhere in the world of wizardry

I propose that the DEs take over the Owl Post Office!
