Sorcerer's Stone And The Findelius Charm

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Nicholas Flamel and Dumbledore
decide to store the Sorcerer's Stone (which can be used to make gold and
a life extending elixir) at Hogwarts for safekeeping. To protect it,
Dumbledore and several teachers set up several magical challenges
(Fluffy the 3 headed dog, Devil's Snare, flying keys (along with the
broomsticks needed to catch them), a chess game involving life size,
moving pieces, a troll, a potions riddle, and the Mirror of Erised. Any
wizard or witch who is clever enough can get past the challenges
(although almost anyone would have trouble convincing the mirror that
they only want to FIND the stone, not use it).

Why didn't Dumbledore and Flamel use a Findelius (sp?) Charm to hide the
stone? That way, no one would have been able to find the stone unless
the Secret Keeper (Dumbledore or Flamel) told him/her, not even Lord
Voldemort!

Why in fact did Dumbledore and the teachers set up challenges that
anyone who's clever enough can pass?

Before asking Dumbledore to protect the Sorcerer's Stone, why didn't
Nicholas Flamel use it to make a century's worth of Youth Elixir? This
would give him time to make a new Stone if the old one got destroyed or
captured.

Do not use the Elixir of Youth past its expiration date.

I did not read anything in the entire Harry Potter series that indicates
that the Elixir of Youth has an expiration date.

In fact, some potions, such as love potions, improve with age!

Well you see, that seems to eliminate much of the story of the first book.
We'd have to rename it... "Harry Potter and the Plotless Fantasy".

--- Flamel wanted to die, not live for another hundred years. If the
stone was destroyed, as it was supposed to be, and was, then jolly good.
Thats what Flamel wanted. If it got captured, it wouldnt do Flamel any
good to make another stone.

If Flamel wanted to destory the Stone in the first place, why didn't he just
do so?

I would still like to know the internal Potterverse reason why
Dumbledore, who
definitely knows about Fidelius Charms (he knows of the one used by
James
Potter, which failed only because the Secret Keeper blabbed to
Voldemort)
didn't use a Fidelius Charm (with Dumbledore or Flamel as the Secret
Keeper.
I'm certain that either one would NEVER blab to Voldemort!) to protect
the
Sorcerer's Stone! The Fidelius Charm would have made it impossible for
Voldemort to find the Stone!

A propos the Fidelius Charm, I would like to know what will happen now that
Dumbledore, who was the Secret Keeper for the Order of the Phoenix, is dead.
Snape knows where the Headquarters are and there is now nothing to prevent
him from spilling the beans. So maybe Book 7 will begin with a Death Eater
attack on number 12, Grimmauld Place.

I believe DD explained that Flamel and his wife felt they had lived long
enough at that point, and were in fact ready to die. They didn't make
a large batch of potion because they didn't need it.

Other unanswered questions along those lines from book 1 are:

- How did DD know that someone was after the Stone? The break
in at Gringotts did not occur until after it had been moved, and that's
the first we know of anyone being after it. As far as they knew about V
he was supposed to be in Romania, no?

- How did Quirrel get past all the security at Gringotts? Even with V
in his head (which I don't know was the case at that point) that's a
pretty mean feat!

He was one of the teachers who set up the challenges, so he was able to learn
from the other teachers how to get past their challenges. Late in the year,
he and Voldemort tricked Hagrid into telling them how to get past Fluffy the
3 headed dog (just play him some music).

This explanation came at the very end, AFTER the attempt to steal the Stone convinced Dumbledore and Flamel that the Stone had to be destroyed for the safety of the world. I had assumed that the Flamels' readiness to die was caused by the near loss of the Stone to Voldemort. I had assume that before Voldemort almost took the Stone, the Flamels had still intended to live indefinitely, so logically have stored up a lot of Ellixir!

One Word: Bait
I thought that the point was to protect the Stone, not try to bait
people into trying to steal it!
