Hello all,

For any of you out there who happen to be Stephen King fans as well as
Potterheads, you might want to check out the latest edition of the Dark
Tower books. "Wolves of Calla," the 5th book of the Dark Tower series, lists
a Harry Potter refence on page 683 (Grant hardback ed.).

Spoilers apply here, but let's just say the the Golden snitch makes a cameo
appearance in end-world. Coming from King, in the series that is the
culmination of his life's work, I consider this refence high praise indeed.
And clever . . .

Anyway, back to the book. Only 20 pages left to go.

King makes no secret of his love of the HP books. He's even reviewed
them for... Time? Newsweek? One of those mags.

Woo-hoo!

Excellent recommendation but read Dark Tower One through Four first (The
Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, The Wastelands and Wizard and Glass).

It was funny I was reading the book and kept seeing mention of sneetches,
thought to myself that sounds very familiar and then had a "doh!" feeling
when they found one and it was a Harry Potter model. (Before anyone says it
should be snitch, you should know that in the Dark Tower books there are
many worlds that have constant references to "our" world but some things get
changed or modified in one world or another).

I finished it last night too. Best in the series so far IMHO. Like the HP
series, there are seven books in total but SK has spaced them out over a
much longer time period (in writing terms). However, he's finished all of
them and the last two are going to be published next year.

Could it be a double reference? "Sneetches" is a Dr Seuss word; they
have stars on their bellies (well, some of them do) and they look rather
birdlike.

Now getting even more O/T this reminds me of when my wife was pregnant with
my daughter, Caroline. We got a book, "Baby, oh Baby, the Places You'll Go"
which was designed to be read in-utero. "The star-bellied sneetches, the
wump of gump too". I read that book every night to my wife's belly! The idea
was that the baby would recognize it when they were born and could be
comforted. Well, my daughter certainly seemed to recognize it after she was
born; the trouble was that she would become more and more agitated as I read
it! I'm not sure we'll read it again if we have another child!

To a certain extent King's sneetch is more of a bludger than a snitch.
