Since JKR has said that neither Harry nor Voldemort (that includes Tom
Riddle) are the HBP
and it could have been Harry or Neville as the hero, then that leaves
Neville as the HBP !!!

Or someone who wasn't a full-blooded wizard...

Except of course for the fact that Neville is described as a pure-blooded
wizard explicitly in CoS and OotP.

Did Hagrid not say in one the films (can't remember if it's in the books
though) when talking about Malfoy teasing Hermione that there's no such
thing as a purblood any more, every wizard alive is half blood or less.

Or words to that effect?

That's a thought. Maybe the HBP is Hagrid. She did seem to be building up
his giant side, maybe that becomes significant.

Well, that certainly is a fine theory... OH, wait a second, Neville is a
pureblood. He can't be the halfblood prince.

Carry on.

Dumbledore said Neville is a pureblood, when he noted the difference between
him and Harry that made Voldy go after the halfblood Harry.

Just a note, about half the inanimate objects in the Potterverse have peoples
nicknames, the prophecies have names, the events have names, and only one of
the titles has referred to actual single characters form the books. Maybe The
Half Blood Prince is just a Machiavelli sequel. (i still say its really
hermione)

Let's look at the villains so far.
spoilers for all the books to follow:

PS/SS: the villain acts through the wimpy fearful teacher Harry
met in the pub.
CoS: the villain acts through the cute little first-year girl from
the friendly happy family.
PoA: the villain is the little pet rat.
GoF: the villain acts through the feaful little house elf girl and also
is introduced as a young fellow who might even have been innocent,
and who was dragged away screaming (always a sympathy-getter).
OotP: the villain acts through _Harry_, our noble hero.

Now, who is the villain going to be, or act through, in HBP?
If JKR follows the pattern, it'll be someone who seems utterly
inoffensive when they are introduced, and probably they will also
have had some experiences that put us on their side to begin with.

My money's on Mark Evans as the mask. No idea who the HBP will be;
he could be the villain, or the one who saves the day by providing
the right information, or the one to be rescued, or any other part
to play except the series hero.

.
You make a good point, as usual. It would be kind of interesting to see
a child as the villian; seemingly friendly, sort of like the Creevy boy,
then eventually showing his true intent to come after Harry. No idea on
the HBP, also, although my bet (and I am not usually successful at
betting) is on Godric Grif.

WTF. Besides Neville being Pureblooded, what on Earth makes you think
HBP has anything to do with the prophecy?

The Question here is,is Neville,Neville?
If Neville is Neville then he can't be
(tHBP) as Neville is pureblood but
however and also if Neville isn't
Neville then he could be anyone,
except Neville.

(hope this helps)

I think James Potter is the Half Blood Prince, that's why
he's so rich.
He is been solidly dead for about 15 years in book 6 and has niether
been seen shrieking around any shacks, nor floating thru the vastness of
Hogwarts. Also, I vaguely recall that Harry has been told his father
definitely did not linger on this side of the veil.

That's why I think he's not the HBP
