Discussion:
Lucious Malfoy's Age?
(too old to reply)

After watching COS again, my husband and I got into another debate... How
old is Lucious Malfoy? He had Tom's Diary, so was he old enough to go to
school with Tom as Hagrid was? Do Giants age differently than humans do?
Or, did Lucious go to school a few years before Harry's parents did?

No, he is younger. In OoTP, his age is given as 41.

Yes, he would have been about 4-5 years older, because JKR said Snape, same
year as the Marauders, is "35 or 36", and she said it around GoF time (so
he'd be 36-37 in OoTP).

Which is quite funny as Jason Isaacs is 17 years younger than Rickman.

Debateable. Diarys are things that can be found - he could've gone to school
when the marauders did, or maybe he didn't.
Isn't snape a few years older, as is bellatrix and many of the death eaters?
Maybe he's there age - would would make sense.

No, he took his OWLs at the same time as the Marauders, as seen in OotP when
harry dips into the Penseive

alright, I thought he was up until yesterday when i thought about it again and
realized he might be a bit older. I'm listening to the order now [to tired to
re-read it], haven't gotten that far yet.

A bit, yes (even the text says he might be "15 or 16", while James is
stated as being 15), but not by enough that he's not in the same year with
them.

Nope. Lucious is a Death Eater; the dark lord most likely gave his faithful
servants the diary and other things to insure his immortality.

Or maybe Lucius collected Riddle paraphernalia as a hobby (or more likely,
in case some of it might come in handy some day). Somehow, I can't imagine
Voldemort looking forward to his sixteen-year-old self taking over the
world. I also can't see Lord Voldemort exchanging fond memories of his
schooldays with just any DE, given his mixed parentage.

Given that Lucius is a contemporary of the Marauders and Snape (albeit just
old enough to suggest he missed the Shrieking Shack and Snape's Worst
Memory), I wonder if *his* parents went to school with Riddle. Maybe that's
how he got the diary.

(Though to be honest, the plot of CoS is one of those things you're better
off not thinking about too deeply, IMO ;)

3+1/2 years old. Evil does age a man so very much on the exterior.

I never heard of him referred to as Lucius O'malfoy. Who did that?

"Malfoy" is Lucius Malfoy's _last_ name, not his first :)

Maybe they're just confused by how luscious Lucius is. :)

Personally, I want to know who "Harmony" is.

For those unacquainted with current fads in British punctuation,
Draco's father does not have an "o" in his first name.
