Page 475: Harry and Dobby Apparate to the vicinity of Shell Cottage, and
Harry can see it.

Page 482: Bill Weasley says that Shell Cottage is protected by the
Fidelius Charm, and that he is the Secret Keeper. This is the first
time Harry has visited Shell Cottage, so Bill had not previously
revealed its location to him, so how was Harry able to see it?

Isn't that where Harry and Hagrid went to when they left Privet Drive?
And Bill came out and took Harry inside, thus revealing the secret to

Well, it worked for Yaxley with 12PD.

Ron had been living there since he stormed out a couple of months
earlier. Ron told Harry and Dobby the address. Therefore Ron must have
been given permission to reveal the address by Bill.

He could have been given a piece of paper to show Ron, but he could NOT
have just told him the address. The spell works to prevent ANYONE but
the secret keeper from saying the address.

It wasn't a secret at that time. Seems to have been a recent
development after they arrived. Perhaps because they arrived.

Again - the Fidelius charm does not make the PLACE invisible. It would
not be possible.

AS we said before - if it was - then one could create a fidelius charm
that would make Hogwarts disappear - when thousands of people went to
school there. If it was - then you could make the Malfoy residence
disappear even from Draco - who has lived there all his life.

No - the fidelius charm must protect what is going on in the place. For
example - when the Potter residence was protected - the house was still
there - however - even if you went there, you would not be able to find
the Potters hiding there.

THe fidelius charm protected the OOP at 12 Grimauld place - it was the
EXTRA protections that THe Black family had put on the house over the
years that made it unplottable (Etc).

and Snape was at 12 GP dozens of times. Yet he could not tell anybody
the order was there, and leading anyone there leads to nothing. In
DH, DE's stationed themselves where 12GP should be, but couldn't find
it, knowing it was there.

Draco, would come home to a house that was gone. Even knowing it was
there, he could never see it nor enter it until he was told the
secret.

Because the secret was about the Potters, not the house. 12GP was
invisible because the secret was about the house itself.

Yet Harry couldn't see until until he learned the secret, and thought
about it.

Yaxley or whoever it was got side along apped to it, and then could
see it, and enter at will.

Therefore, a building can be made invisible by the Fedielus Charm. Not
everything under oen would become invisible.

I guess Bill must have let Dobby in on the secret. This would be

We can't have house elves just appear at a Fidelius protected house.
If that was true, anyone with a house elf could break the Fidelius
charm.

How about the following chain of circumstances: Dobby appears near
Shell cottage with Luna, etc.. Bill, out working in the garden sees
them and goes to them. Then he tells Dobby the secret of Shell
Cottage. Dobby goes back and brings back the trio?

Actually, of course, it is just a plot hole.

Probably not. I've just checked, and from the conversation Harry
overhears after burying Dobby, it appears that the Fidelius charm has
just been set up on the property in the last few minutes, triggered by
Harry et al's arrival.

I thought that only the Secret Keeper could reveal the location.

How was Ron able to find it when he arrived there after storming out on Harry and Hermione?

Ron spent his Christmas there and knew it was just outside Tinsworth which
is just a general location, plus Bill (secret keeper) could have given Ron
permission to tell Harry & Hermione. When they all escaped the Malfoy's
Harry ended up in the countryside & not at an actual cottage, although he
could see a cottage in the distance. That could have been any cottage also
near Tinsworth.

Then Bill who IS the Shell Cottage secret keeper came out to meet them, so
he was the one who revealed the actual location of the cottage. The same
could have happen when Dobby took Luna, Dean, & Mr. Ollivander there
earlier. Before that Harry could have spent the rest of the book wandering
around Tinsworth without finding Shell Cottage.

Case in point, the Members of the OotP in book 5 had no trouble taking Harry
right to 12 GP but it took the actual note from DD (12 GP secret keeper)
before Harry could see it.

Maybe it was because they apparated there with Dobby, and it's another
way in which House Elves can do what wizards can't? (That's a theory,
anyway...)

But I think the theory that Shell Cottage was protected by a Fidelius
Charm after Harry et al arrived has merit.

Or maybe JKR was in a hurry to get Harry Ron and Hermione to safety
and fudged the Fidelius rules, a little.

That is my thinking too. Are we clear if Harry was the one doing the
apparating or if it was Dobby. I wouldn't be surprised if house elfs
can penetrate a house protected by the fidelius charm.

Probably. It's only at that point that the Death Eaters know for sure
that Ron is with Harry, so that is the point the Weasley family is in
immediate danger.

Probably, but at least there are a few theories that can explain it
logically.

Dobby was with Harry when he first arrived at Shell Cottage, and we
have no idea how elves are limited by a Fidelius Charm. If elves can
apparate in and out of Hogwarts, why not within the boundaries of a
Fidelius Charm?

Also, when Harry and Dobby arrived at Shell Cottage, everyone came out
of the cottage itself to greet Harry, in essence welcoming him into
the fold.

Kreacher freely comes and goes from Grimmauld Place. Certainly, as
unpleasant as he was, he would not have been in on the secret and he
would have been unable to return when Sirius commanded him to leave.
Except, magic is different for elves and he was bonded to GP somehow.

I assumed that Dumbledore had told him the secret, then Sirius told him not to
tell anyone about the Order of the Phoenix.

Kreacher would not have been able to tell anyone where the OOTP was anyway.

Why not? Surely Bela and Cissy might have known already, but why not?

Because "The headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix is located at
12GP" is protected by the Fidelius Charm.

Kreacher serves the noble House of Black, though, right? Not
particularly Grimmaud Place, the OOTP, etc.
